Hello all,
I am designing a test fixture that will let us automate testing of
some of our desktop machines that have integral smart card readers.
One suite of tests concerns the system's response to card insertion
and removal operations. In order to have the test fixture cause
minimal change to the system under test (both software and hardware),
I am looking for a device that is the same thickness and width as a
smart card but which brings out the contact pads to an edge or header
connector, and which also has an electromechanical mechanism to
actuate and release the card detect switch in the reader socket. I
realize that not all sockets have the card detect switch in the
same place; the ones we are using currently have the switch at the
inside end of the socket. Does anyone know of any commercially
available devices that are available that do this? I don't need the
complete test fixture, just the card-like device that goes into the
slot.
An alternative that I considered is to create something that pushes
the card into the reader and pulls it out, but that is mechanically
more complex.
I've done a web search and found a number of custom text fixture
houses than can custom-make something like this, but it seems to me
that this might already be in use by some members of OCF to do this
kind of testing.
thanks,
mike
p.s. And of course there are always starving college students :-)
