Sun has indeed written a pure java driver for the SmartMouse, and to be
frank it's the best pure java driver I've come across - I've used it in
several critical projects with no problems and will continue to do so.
It works well under Win32 & Solaris. It should work OK under Linux if I
could only find a decent javax.comm package for it.

It was used in conjunction with the Brazil project for a while. I'm not
sure if the driver is publicly available, but I've forwarded your
request to someone at Sun who was involved.

I know also that members of SunLabs read this list, so maybe they would
like to respond.

Sorry for the roundabout answer, but I don't want to nominate a contact
at Sun who isn't appropriate.

Jon.
