Hi,

I am new to the OCF, however I think it has tremendous utility. I am
confused as to why dual slot terminals (smart phones ) are needed to run
multiple applications. Cant a GSM card be aligned with the OCF and thus
different applications run on top of the one card? Or is available memory /
processor the problem here? OR am I missing the point all together?

I hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

Why dual slot phones? Partly convenience (ID-000 size small SIM permanently
in the phone, bank card from your wallet in the 2nd slot), partly those
**** bankers not prepared to put their general purpose applications onto a
card issued by a third party, partly just that the development has not been
done (original GSM card OS is very simple in concept, being basically a
single app BIOS), partly that the SIM card is quite full of data.

But there are several developments going ahead at the moment, with a
multi-app OS on the SIM card, and soon you will see true multi-app SIM
cards.

Technically, both GSM and EMV run on very similar silicon. But (like Amex
Blue), maybe EMV over the phone ought to have a certificate in the card
from day one, and thus use silicon with a co-processor.

Peter Tomlinson
