Hi Christophe,
don't worry, HBCI is so far a national german "standard" and stands for "Home
Banking Computer Interface".
It's an agreement between many german banks to have an uniform protocol for
secure (private) banking transactions. It also replaces authentication methods
like PIN/TAN and uses there for a smart card. The encryption is done by SSL.
HBCI is designed that way that it can be used internationally but is know so
far just in germany where more and more banks are offering services based on
HBCI.
I know one implementation in particular and that one uses the CT-API. I guess
the other one do so too. That may be the background for the question of Ralph.
You can find further information on http://www.hbci.de
There are english pages too.
The actual version of the specification is 2.2 which was released around 7
month ago.
Most banks use 2.1 ore even 2.0.1 the predecessor of 2.1.
Greetings,
Markus
