From what I have seen, the API allows a developer to create an
application that "should" be interoperable with most smart cards. Yet why
is it that in order to do basic things, the code must explicitly refer to
services specific to the vendor of the card which negates the vendor
interoperability.
About 3 months ago I downloaded the OCF reference implementation and
started playing with it. I came to the point where I wanted to do some
simple signing and decryption of RSA session keys but found I couldn't
because there is no standard way to "log in" to the card, IE. get the pin
from the user and specify it directly. I was using generic Gemplus 8K
cards. We obtained the GemXpresso 211pk package which gave me the
capability to specify the pin to the card, but only for those Gemplus
JavaCards using the GemPlus VOP services.
Will issues like this ever be fixed or am I just missing something?
