I'm agree with you, however there are some other alternatives to a smart
card reader with keypad, for instance:

In a desktop PC (with PS/2 keyboard), the GemPC420 reader can be used to
retrieve the PIN code from the keyboard and present it to the smart card
while hiding it from the computer. This way, it is impossible for a
parasitic application to hack into a smart card aware application and find
the user PIN code.
