Hi all,
if you want login with smartcard with Windows 2000 you must have:

A) PC/SC compliant driver for Reader and SmartCard (Mandatory) You can see
in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Calais\SmartCards\ the ATR for
initialize the correct card You can see in
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Calais\Readers\ the default reader If
you don't have, go a Gemplus site o Schlumberger site for the lastest PC/SC
driver 

B) Crypto Service Provider (Mandatory)
Look on Technet Microsoft site for the CSP correct version

C) Certification Authority
Root o Subordinate, pay attention for policy about certificate request,
smartcard logon e client authenticate is mandatory. You will have a
Enrollment Certificate for release card for another person.

C) Joined to Domain
The Workstation must be joined to the Active Directory Domain for PKINIT
procedure of Kerberos Services.

Also if you request is : I've W2K in workgroup, don't have CA, don't have
AD, and I want use my smartcard only for logon, you can do that but you must
change the Microsoft GINA library with another one that provide this
funcionality, I've try GemPlus Enterprise Workstation found it on
www.gemplus.com and seems work fine.
