I believe at the time the OC List was set up Alain told the HC List that
he/we would keep them abreast of our progress.

As for Apple's "stance", it's B/S rhetoric.  They let the press or public
know what they want when they want to, and hide behind "we don't comment on
products under development" when they don't want to.

Furthermore, Apple is a commercial enterprise and OC is an open source
project.  While I don't suggest we hype nonexistant features or exaggerate
our progress to date, I think it is appropriate and desirable to keep those
who are interested up to date on what has been accomplished.  Beyond simply
maintaining communications, it is also an avenue for recruiting more
participants.
