******* LOS ANGELES, 19 July, 1999 *******
Fourth World announced today a strategic alliance with DevHQ to
deliver its popular line of SuperCard tools for free to the Open Source
community. Both source code and compiled externals, most complete with
sample projects, will be available for free download at a new section
to
be added to the DevHQ site.

There is competition brewing folks. Old rivalries are being re-flammed
but this time the arena is OpenSource. In this corner OpenSource
HyperCard-clone (OC) and in the other corner OpenSource SuperCard.Same
GUI metaphor. SuperTalk is a compatible superset of HyperTalk.

We have three alternatives :

(1) Continue with OC as before. In effect, compete with Fourth World's
SC. First of all, it seems like an awful waste of potential for
xTalk-lovers to split ranks and re-do everything twice. Secondly,
SuperCard was superior to HyperCard in many respects (not all), and
OpenSource SuperCard has or will have a lead on us as well.

(2) We could desist and join up with OpenSource SC.

(3) We could join forces with OpenSource SC, in effect collaborating
with them. This is the best alternative in my view. "Together we stand,
divided we fall, and if our backs should ever be against the wall, ..."
as the song goes. Us xTalk-lovers have to stick together. We are an
endangered species!

Consider this critical debate launched.
