Hi,
Re-reading the above I realized that here comes in how wxWindows works:
The wxWindows team leaves this open. They just work by consensus. They have
all agreed on a common license, and everyone has copyright for his/her
part, but as the license is so liberal, nobody cares who has the copyright.
If someone finds a bug, he/she submits a patch under the license, and
that's it. If this fix causes problems, they either revert to the old code,
or someone goes in and fixes the fixed code. If many people disagree, then
others step back.
Basically they work, I guess, by survival of the fittest. (Although I'm
not sure whether Julian Smart has last say). But I'd say we should work
this way. As long as the license makes sure the code becomes free and
people can fork, it doesn't matter. People who have a different opinion
will fork.
But we should also allow forkers to later update their code with code from
the original branch where possible. E.g.:
Jack wants to add support for saving PostScript graphics to OC, as he's
using OC in pre-press
Peter doesn't want this as he'll never need PostScript and it adds 2MB to
the size of the application
Many others on the list couldn't care less about PS, but 1/4 of the team
are working in pre-press and would also like to add these 2MB
Jack forks
*but* Jack only offers a changed distribution that adds the PostScript
code. For the rest, he still works with the others on the original OC and
copies this code into his OpenPSCard.
Cheers,
