Alain: It begs the question, though, as to why Apple's file access
priviledges are not considered secure enough for our purposes. Is there
something INsecure about using Users & Groups to control access to my
server?
Adrian: There is nothing insecure about it, but I would have preferred to
keep the working of the CGI internal as that makes it a more polite CGI.
Adrian: This is wonderful to hear. I can't wait to finally see this new
collaboration infrastructure.
Alain: You have quite tactfully pointed out, indirectly (and perhaps
unintentionally), a credibility-gap that has bothered me for some time,
between what I propose and when I deliver.
Adrian: This was certainly not what I intended to point out. Your work for
both the UFP and OpenCard is greatly appreciated and I do not expect you to
give up paying work for either group.
Alain: 1. I must learn to curb my enthusiasm and optimism;
Adrian: I disagree, you're enthusiasm and optimism inspire others to do
well. We need someone in the group who has big ideas and enthusiasm, even
if those ideas are not implemented in full. Of course we also need a
realist to make sure we stay on track and don't get too worked up. :)
Alain: 2. Like everyone else, I have to work to earn my keep. Unfortunately,
this often takes precedence over projects like our own;
Adrian: And rightly so. I have put UFP and OpenCard on the back-burner
lately so I can cope with my university work, we all must stay alive.
Alain: 3. Computer stuff always takes much more time than we anticipate. I
have marginally improved my estimates over the years, but it is pretty much
as it has always been: imponderable. Just when you start getting used to
something ... out come new technologies, new versions, etc.
Adrian: Very true. Fortunately, we have no set deadlines anyway.
