Anthony: We're considering trademark on the name
OpenCard (or, rather the final name--whatever that
is), that only we'd be able to use. Anyone could fork
and create a different version, but he'd have to call
it something else.
Alain: Agreed but it should be noted though that a
Trademark (obviously) merely protects the name that we
will eventually call IT. It is not enough. We
definitely need a licence and an organization ... to
defend against someone selling our work under another
name without changing a single bit of the Standard
Distribution, for example.

Anthony: I think he meant to say "given the fact the
the name OpenCard..."
Alain: I really don't understand the "clarification"
that you were making above, Anthony.
Alain: The name OpenCard is already being used. The
company that owns the trademark of the name OpenCard
might take offense to our group using it. Not just
later, but perhaps even right now. So my question to
Eric Engle was : Are we taking an unnecessary
liability risk by provisionally using the name OpenCard?
