Threads: I am sorry for not having used the subject line and shall be more
coherent in its use.
Attachments: Ok, I will send any attachments to you as attachments as well as
to the list via the byzantine copy and paste (a hangover from DOS?)
Linux: I am still trying to figure out if the system unreliability is a result
of newbie administrators (which i actuall think is the case) or an actual
system problem. I remember earlier versions of MacOS (System 3.1, i think)
were very crash prone (straight into the debugger which at the time i knew
nothing and of which i still know to little). Since MacOS ~3.1 was crash
prone i would not be surprised if linux were as well.
In summary, i think it is not that linux is unreliable, but that our
administrators are, well newbies.
Also my school has two versions of linux - an earlier one which is driven via
pop up menus (click on background, and menu appears with submenus) and a later
version which more closely simulates the Mac GUI. The second version is easier
than windows NT, and the first reacts about like earlier versions of windows.
In other words they "look and feel" rickety
Oh, if you are wondering why winDOwSup to version 3 was really not that
similar to the MacOS it is because of the trial between Mac and MS. MS won
because of a poorly drafted contract. I've not bothered reading the case as it
would turn my stomach.
Related note: toolbook is, IMLO, an infringement of copyright. I even wrote an
e-mail to Bill Atkinson (which has not been answered) to this effect.
Final note:
Oh, if anyone is studying AI there is lots of information in french about it
because prolog was developed in france (i _think at the university of
marseille)
