I request we refer to the group as a whole
as "the developers" or perhaps "FreeCard developers"
with the partners being referred to as
"FreeCard development partners"
The generic "developers" would be anyone who has
made any kind of contribution, recognized or not,
to the FreeCard project. This would include
mailing list members, patch submitters, newbies
that keep asking the same question so we can get
it in the FAQ, etc. The idea is if that person
can somehow be shown to have moved the
project forward, they would be in this catagory
and it is a lifetime status.
"FreeCard Development partner" is a very small
subset of the "developers" whose sole purpose is
to be accountable for the progress and future of
the project.
I added the word "development" for the express
purpose of allowing for another kind of partnership.
Perhaps one that involves commercial support,
like "FreeCard business partners", which would
give businesses and individuals special privelages
with regards to the FreeCard organization.
I'm thinking a "FreeCard Business Partner" might
give us consistent funding and as a gift
to them we would pay more attention to the features
they were requesting, or maybe a support contract.
They are a partner, and they are not a member of
the partnership. They would have a separate
arrangement. I believe money makes it easier
to forward development because it increases our
pool of resources. While not the deciding factor
of success or failure it can make a difference.
By declaring what kind of partnership agreement
we are in, it allows us to focus on what the
important element of that relationship is.
Right now, "FreeCard development partners" are
probably the most critical kind of relationships
we can build.
