Alain: How silly of me. Consequently, now that I know
which side is which, the victory of this loser would
indeed be dreadful, as you stipulated. It would render
GPL totally useless.
> I'll use names next time to prevent any confusion.
Alain: Another variation on the
Problem-of-Other-Minds. e.g. You can never really know
for sure whether the other person has understood what
you wanted him to understand. The back-and-forth
exchanges (communication) serve to confirm or
disaffirm the inferences of the preceding exchanges.
In plain English, if we talk long enough, we can be
reasonably sure that we both understand the same
thing. As we have done in this case. Nothing wrong
with that but, as you suggest above, we can reduce the
number of exchanges necessary to achieve our goal, by
being as clear and as explicit as possible in each and
every exchange. For what it is worth, this is my aim,
and I encourage everyone to do likewise.
