Hi,

in an attempt to familiarize myself with the new MacOS X programming
interfaces ("Carbon") I have begun hacking around a bit on our user
interface code. I've come up with a simple starting place, nowhere near
finished, which I've dubbed Dave/HAL. Now I'd need someone with knowledge
about programming under Windows or Linux or some other OS to have a look at
what I created so far to make sure I haven't done everything wrong.

I'd be especially interested in suggestions regarding how we would code
the buttons, edit fields etc, as both the Mac and Windows AFAIK don't
handle overlapping items correctly. I could cause the Mac to draw buttons
etc., but does Windows support that, too, or can Windows be brought to
correctly draw overlapping objects in windows some other way, while
maintaining the look-and-feel even if MS suddenly came up with their answer
to MacOS X's Aqua design.

Of course, it'd be best if someone could actually do a quick port of
Dave/HAL so we see it actually works, but I'd be content if someone could
just tell me this would work similarly on Windows.

Cheers,
-- M. Uli Kusterer
