We have lots of experience using the Smarty with C applications via the dedicated SDK and via PC/SC. It works very well, and we have sold many thousands along with our software.
It should work with any smartcard, although much of our experience is with GSM SIM cards.
We also have a Java app working via OCF and the PC/SC wrapper, although only the very latest Smarty (released this month) is PC/SC compatible. We will be shipping the new Smarty bundled with our PhoneFile PRO application from next week.
