Ken,

I think the book is definetly worth its price.

Beside some general informations about smart cards, cryptography, industry
standards, javacards and OCF itself, the book includes
- an up-to-date overview of smart card operating systems and today's smart card
applications
- a detailed OCF specification (which is not part of the programmers guide,
available from www.opencard.org)
- some very comprehensive samples (e.g. a business card demo with a JavaCard
Applet and the OCF Off-card Application)

The book saves quite a lot of time, when getting started with OCF or when using
it as a quick reference during daily development work.
(Imagine you would have to gather all that information on your own!)

Best regards
Thomas
