Hello,
Matchz was wondering on using the Palm serial port in a
Java environment:

Peter replied rightly that:

In fact, any driver written in pure Java (i.e., making use of the
standard javax.comm API), among them the one for Gemplus readers
family, will work as soon as an implementation of this API is
available in a Palm Java environment.
Some news on the subject: It is currently not possible to use
JNI in a Palm KVM, and so it is not possible to implement such
extension other than by modifying the VM (or asking Sun to do so).
There was a long thread on this subject in the kvm-interest
mailing-list in november, see the following URL:
http://archives.java.sun.com/cgi-bin/wa?A1=ind9911&L=kvm-interest#11
This resulted in a RFE (Request For Enhancement) asking for the
availibility of JavaComm API on the Palm KVM. See the RFE at:
http://www.vm.exnet.com/features/1999/11/24/002.html
This RFE does not mean in any way that this feature will be
available any time soon... but there was a message of interest
in the thread from Adam Abramski <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> that
shows Sun is keeping an eye on the list.
Cheers,
Christophe.
