Yes, however, we introduced it to store card or applet states.

Can I use the CardChannel.state functions to get and set any data I wish?

The problem I'm trying to solve is determining which applet on the card
(AID) was selected last.
When the card is removed, this selection needs to be reset.  So, when the
card is removed from the reader, does the CardChannel object get deleted?

I reset many variables in my card when the AID is selected for my applet, so
it has to be selected once and only once when the card is inserted.
