Ignoring the FFs, A2 is the Gemcore status command for the error you are getting.
You can get this if you haven't set up the card parameters correctly e.g. wrong PTS etc.
Are you using Gemplus Block Protocol or PCSC?
Have you tried it using another Gemplus reader (not a PC410)?
