Yes, CN896 chipset is supposed since it is effectively identical to P4M900 and VN896 chipsets. That being said, newer versions tend to work better than older versions since I put in so much effort into fixing bugs that were left from the past. Unfortunately, many distributions still use relatively older versions like Version 0.3.3. Some distributions like Ubuntu recently dropped the default install of X Server device drivers that do not support kernel mode setting (i.e., Ubuntu 16.04). In this case, you will need to install it after you finish the OS installation.
