Re: HW acceleration for CX700 (VT3157)? The HardwareCaveats page on the wiki says that MPEG2/MPEG4 acceleration for CX700/CX700M/CX700M2 is NOT implemented. I don't know for sure if the page is up to date, but I assume it is.
It seems VIA has a newer driver than what you tried: http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/cle266cn400cn-cx700cn800xorg40072-kernel-src_20061226d.tgz . Maybe you'll have more success with that one.
