OK I have numbers that look like that now.

What was wrong:

        - old xine-lib files, strange, I did a clean install... maybe yum/livna
installed something I did not notice?
        - problems with pulseaudio, the lib-devel stuff was missing and my
shiney new xine-lib did not like that

For those interested: 

        - throw away .xine/config and start afresh. 
        - use xine -V xxmc -A auto to start xine the first time
        - install ALL the pulseaudio bits and read the howto

Now I have just one VDR issue to fix - see you there Reinhard =:-D
