Simply remove the line that says 'Load "dri"' from your xorg.conf. That will disable the use of DRI/drm. Or delete the drm.ko and via.ko modules, or move them somewhere where the kernel doesn't look for them. > Or can I simply do a normal installation with etch's > outdated libdrm / drm.ko / via.ko It may be, though, that you can't compile openchrome when some of those things are too old.
