Hi

I am running Xubuntu 7.10, xfce4, with CIA K8M890(CE) chipset and vesa X driver.

I cannot get the VIA source to compile, something about imake not found shortly after running makedriver. imake is on my system (/usr/bin/imake) but I think it is expecting it somewhere else.

The Unichrome drivers do not, yet, support my K8M890 so,...

I turned to openchrome. The driver loads however, the response of the system is painfully slow when using openchrome. Raising window focus takes about 2 seconds and the mouse speed and window drag is very very slow. If I disable composite in xfce's System->WindowTweaks then it is better but I dont understand why the vesa driver works fine with compositing and is MUCH faster then the openchrome driver.

I tried various options from the ubuntu forums such as downloading synaptic packages for openchrome, debian packages and eventually rolled up my sleves and managed to hand compile the openchrome svn trunk. 0.2.6+svn357 sources (I even tried the latest source from trunk and no change to my problem) ....

I've played around with xorg.conf, and the BIOS settings (including default) all to no avail...

Can anyone help please and suggest a way forward. Is this a known issue ??
