Yes, as in I just noticed (after trying with the same settings and
trunk) that I actually get a working display with those settings, in
trunk. With empty settings my display said "no signal".

No, as in the screen locks up, and if I try to kill gdm, the whole
machine locks up. So for the moment I am sticking to randr branch :)
