> look in the xorg.log for related messages to find out why. Oh wait - I found some more info. glxinfo still reckons i've got direct rendering but Xorg.0.log now has
(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib/dri/unichrome_dri. so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727) (EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering Interestingly: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ nm /usr/lib/dri/unichrome_dri.so | grep driCreateNewScreen 0001eee9 t driCreateNewScreen So it looks like something (I have no idea what) is calling a function called __driCreateNewScreen_20050727() but the only one available in unichrome_dri.so is driCreateNewScreen() Looks like I've got conflicting versions of things - oh well. Maybe newer versions of ubuntu will have this sorted out - unless anyone has any new ideas.
