 I have no idea what this means. I am an über-noob, and all I know is that
 the only VIA anything in the repositories is a so-called transitional
 package that doesn't seem to be the actual VIA driver.

 What do you mean by "switching to the console and back"? I have no point
 of reference for this. Thanks in advance for any help.
