Try to switch to EXA mode.
To do this try to add following line in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:

Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
}}}
Check also option:
{{{
Option "NoAccel" "true"
}}}
Is any option solve your problems with your chipset?
