No, but now tried it and the result was the same. I had to use a different
monitor because the only device here with HDMI is some 50" TV by Samsung,
so I am attaching a new xorg log and conf. I went through all the modes
with Ctrl-Alt-+ and although it did have some effect, they were only
variations on garbledness.
