KMS is able to retrieve the EDID, however the default mode (1920x1080) is
not used and the mode that is then choosen (720x480) seems not to work.
KMS is still a work in progress, so let's concentrate on UMS for now.
Could you please re-test UMS with git master ? James tweaked the i2c code
and the driver might now be able to retrieve the EDID and thus properly
configure the VGA port (assuming the issue we see with KMS doesn't show up
with UMS too).
Yet another option could be to re-introduce the 0.2.x driver behaviour :
if neither LVDS nor VGA is detected, then enable VGA anyway with the
default mode (800x600 or 1024x768, depending on the X server version,
iirc)
