In Silico Medicine (Alex Zhavonkorov and a big team in Russia) are applying deep NNs to genomics extensively.... There are a couple dozen other startups doing this these days... My own work applying AI to genomics has focused on evolutionary learning and probabilistic inference rather than NNs ... Anyway when I started applying AI to genomics in 2001 it was a niche area but now it's a flourishing industry...
