yep, silly me :) i figured it out an hour after the post.

after going through the whole procedure everything is working fine.

thanks and sorry for the noise.

but i'm curious, why do i have to use tpmtoken_init? 'pkcsconf -t -c 0' showed 
TOKEN_INITIALIZED
which led me on the wrong track. while playing around (initializing and setting 
PINs)
TOKEN_INITIALIZED vanished which made me think the token isn't initialized 
after all.
does the chip returns TOKEN_INITIALIZED even if it's not?
