On the tags: I've also noticed that these get lost in the ReadImage. In fact one of our scientists would like us to provide better access to the scanner metadata (associated with these tags, for TIFF output files) inside DX. Extending DX TIFF reading to attach tag data as field attributes isn't really going to solve it in this case because of the peculiar format and asymmetry in how the scanners attach these tags to images (e.g. 3KB multivalue lists attached to one tag, some image 1 tags apply to the whole stack, etc.).
