This gets it compiling, but no claims about how it runs.  In addition,
I also had to make a hot-hack to src/uipp/java/Makefile because the build
is divining a "DXABI = -n32 -L/usr/lib32" from somewhere.

     Notes: I haven't run this.  Hit problems with a missing 64-bit
libtiff.so that I don't have time to resolve now.  Also, if the patches
look strange, they are.  The SGI C++ compiler has this nice bu^H^H^Hfeature
that casting from 64-bit pointer to a 32-bit integer (int) generates a hard
compile error.  However casting through a 64-bit integer (long) is OK.
