By default a series is loaded into memory all at once so you could be
definitely outstripping available resources once you enlarge your
series.
Import can be directed to load a subset (including 1) step of a
series. Look at the User Reference manual or Context-Sensitive Help
(click on Import module) for details. Sequencer or a static
interactor like Integer can drive the appropriate inputs.
You lose the nice feature that DX can find the full range of a series
if you do not import the whole series (the range applies only to the
memory-resident portion), so you may need to calculate this
externally to set colormaps, etc. correctly.
