Interesting.  About as strange as Slicing out a row and getting X counts
with Y origin and deltas. ;-)

FWIW, [2 0][0 1] is column-major order (it defied my intuition at first
too).  The first dimension is the slowest-varying, i.e. X.  Hello FORTRAN!
