There is going to be some problems with updating. There are some big
changes especially with the stuff for building JavaExplorer (I tried
updating it for 2.5 but 2.53 is a major change). We are really
looking at needing to libtoolize our building. Without it, the
autoconf group has really limited how things are done. I was going to
look into doing the libtool'in but it will take a bit of time.
Anybody know of a set of tools to parse c and c++ that can produce a
list of functions and globals? I'd really like to clean up any
duplicates, etc as I begin libtooling.

I just updated my cygwin version and it looks like the newest release of
the autotools - automake, autoconf etc. break OpenDX . I find I can get
it to work with the old autotools by adding a line: AC_PREREQ(2.13) into
configure.in, but the right thing to do is update it, I guess. It looks
like the new stuff prefers configure.ac over configure.in, so we can have
both for backward compatibility. Any comments? Does anybody have any
recent experience with this stuff?
