I have (am putting) a tar.bz2 file on my ftp site that is from a native CVS 
build for RH8.0.  If youwnat to grab it that would be fine w/ me
If the DX folks want me to remove it I will.  It shold be untared in the /
/usr/local dir.  See

it has netcdf built in as well,  if you need thatthere
is a netcdf.tar.gz file in my ftp dir as well that willb uild under RH8
