Hi, I am writing to report results on: 1. OpenDX compilation under AIX, 2. building modules (the dxhdf5 package) with Libtool.
1. I wanted to check if the CVS version of OpenDX works under AIX with C++ loadable modules. There was a bug fixed recently, and the changes introduced in CVS were: the addition of a new file "dxexec.imp" and the modification of the "loader.c" file. I built and used smoothly the CVS version that I checked out on September 26, 2003. OpenDX built with the VisualAge C++ Professional C++ for AIX Compiler, Version 6 under AIX 5.1. The other tools were: GNU Bison 1.35, flex 2.5.4, GNU Autoconf 2.57, GNU automake 1.7.6, and GNU libtool 1.5. STATUS: successfully used a CVS version of OpenDX under AIX. 2. After problems with building loadable modules under AIX with our custom Automake/Autoconf framework (without Libtool), we decided to use Libtool. I am glad to write that Libtool works for us: it builds C++ loadable modules under AIX that OpenDX can use. IMPORTANT: you need Libtool 1.5. The previous version of Libtool (v 1.4.2) does not support C++ loadable modules under AIX. STATUS: successfully used OpenDX C++ loadable modules under AIX. The dxhdf5 package with Libtool was also successfully built and used under Linux, Mac OS X, IRIX. Perhaps it works on other platforms, but we do not have access to them. Best, Irek
