That's true about fullscreen for Voodoo3, but according to Darryl Strauss'
webpage at least *that* part may be remedied for 3dfx by around the end
of the year, so that 3dfx-based cards can render 3D into windows with
whatever XFree is current at the time. I don't know what the story is
right now for NVida chips, since I don't have one. There are 3D drivers
but that would by itself only mean that fullscreen should be possible.
I have a Voodoo Rush and it is nicely though probably not optimally
hardware accelerated into a window, but unfortunately (1) the chip was
obsoleted almost as soon as it came out -- I seem to be one of about 10
people who bought one--and (2) Darryl never updated the X server for it,
so I am stuck at 3.3.2 :-( This server does do GL via Mesa, not an
"official" openGL, of course, but close enough for nearly all purposes.
