Depending upon the version you have, the executable "dx" needs to be in the
path.  That seems to be the problem you have now.  To get the samples, etc.
to run, you will need to install the samples if they were not part of the
binary distribution.  Then DXROOT, DXDATA and DXMACROS will need to be set
for those to function properly.  The need for these settings should become
obsolete in future releases.
