David,
I have uploaded Opendx 4.0.10 binaries for Windows/Cygwin, to your
SDSC ftp server. I will classify this release as stable therefore
it replaces previous OpenDX 4.0.6 and 4.0.9 releases for Windows.
Below is the README file.

Regards
Suhaib

----------------------------------------------------------------

First: I have switched to distributing my binary releases as Bzip2
archives. Bzip2 offers better compression, therefore less download
time and less space of ftp server. If you do not have Bzip2
installed on your Windows NT/9x, you can get a copy from
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/bzip2.

This release uses LessTif 0.89.9. OSF/MOTIF seems to have a drag
and drop bug on Windows. It is an outstanding bug, since years,
which often shows up on several platforms. I did not get time to
trace it in OSF/MOTIF code and possibly fix it. Therefore for now I
am sticking to LessTif.

The download archive is spitted into two parts:

1) opendx-4.0.10-cygwin-v1.1.tar.bz2: It contains everything except
fonts. docs, help and html pages. If you have previous release of
OpenDX installed, then you ONLY need this.

2) opendx-4.0.10-docs.tar.bz2: Contains only docs, html, help and
fonts
directories.

If you do not have previous releases of OpenDX installed then you
need both archives.

If you are using Netscape, you may see gibberish on your screen when
you try to download a bzip2 archive. Either hold the Shift key
while clicking to download, or edit the Netscape Preferences. Under
Edit --> Preferences --> Navigator --> Application:

in Description: fill in Bzip2 Compressed archive.
in MIME Type: application/x-bzip2
and in Suffixes: tar.bz2

Check the "Unknown: Prompt User" box then click OK button.

The binaries were compiled using:

GCC 2.95.2
Cygwin version 1.1 (CD Release)
ImageMagick 5.1.1
CDF 2.5
NetCDF
HDF
SGI GLX/Mesa 3.2 from XFree86 4.0
TTF
TIFF (latest release with no LZW Compression)
Jpeg (latest release with no Compression)
PNG (latest release with no LZW compression)
Jbig
libz

Most of the libraries are statically linked.

The libraries and executables are stripped from debugging symbols.

All the Xlib DLLs needed for OpenDx are in the archive. However, it
is recommended you download my X11R6.4 complete distribution from
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin/xfree

The OpenDx libs compiled with Microsoft Visual C/C++ are also
included, in case you want to develop OpenDX clients using Microsoft
Visual C/C++ (MSVC). The recommended version of MSVC is 6.0 with SP
4.0 or later.

You will need an X-server.

All the OpenDx related questions should be addressed to OpenDx
mailing lists ONLY. All the Cygwin usage related questions should
be addresses to Cygwin mailing list. You can subscribe to Cygwin
mailing list by sending a message to

Recommended: Install OpenDx in /usr/local on your C:\ drive. If you
install in another directory or drive, you MUST edit Opendx.bat
found in dx/bin directory.

Have fun!!!!

Suhaib
