U. Montana developed a  USGS DEM format filter a number of years ago (I
think on the DX BonusPak CD,
http://www.research.ibm.com/dx/bonuspak/contrib/gis2dx/).  But DEMs come in
many formats.  Most (e.g., ETOP05, GTOP30, GLOBE) are simple 2d arrays of
shorts (meters above/below sea level) per tile, cell-centered.   These can
be directly imported with the general array importer.

What is the best way to load DEMs (GLOBE etc) into opendx?
The data format does not seem to be supported or have I missed something
obvious?
