It is a bit closer but I got the gist so I decided not to complain! I
think that it will still lead me to the same problems that my
calculation based solution does. I still can't select between regions
automatically because the volumes that I am interested in all have far
too similar properties.
Thanks for all the suggestions as without them I would have continued to
bang my head against a wall for the even the simplest parts of the
problem! My final solution looks like I have to give a bit of user
choice to chop up the data based on position. I think that I should be
able to work out how to do this for myself...
