In fact "end" is only required when you do the Header followed by Data format dx file which is usually more trouble than it's worth. I prefer the Header in one file (the .dx file) with file pointer references to one or more Data files (.data if ASCII or .bin if binary). This makes editing the header real easy since the data is isolated over in other files. In this case, end is superfluous since it is at the end of the header and nothing follows.
