Hello list,
recently I installed OpenDX 4.1.0 from the SuSE CD-ROMs (SuSE 7.0) on a
Linux machine here, but there are some oddities which didn't show up on
AIX 4.2, for which I compiled the same version from the sources last
summer. In general it seems to me that DX is more stable on AIX than on
Linux. The major problems I have encountered yet are:
- The Visual Program Editor doesn't work. It hangs right after firing it
up, i.e. it is unusable. In contrast, it works perfectly under AIX.
- The UI tends to hang if it encounters a problem; in particular,
execution of my script starts immediately when invoking it, but it will
hang if e.g. a database file specified in the File Selector (from the
last session) does not exist anymore. This probably is related to the
former problem, because on error the VPE is started automatically.
- In some scripts the Color Editor shows the colormap with the wrong
colours, in the same way as you sometimes see it in applications using a
private colormap. I'm not sure in which respect this is really a problem
of DX, but I didn't have this problem on my former IBM/AIX box. Are
there known problems with certain graphics cards maybe? Remarkably, if I
start DX remote on the AIX machine, the colour problem is the same,
although it does work well when I am at the console of the AIX box.

I'd appreciate if someone could give me explanations or share
workarounds/solutions. Are there maybe problems with libraries which
could cause these failures?
