I wrote WorldMap almost a decade ago...

The first thing to check is the ordering of your coordinates. WorldMap and
the related tools have a default of lat,lon as opposed to lon,lat (easily
corrected with Transpose).

You might want to look at the some of the older tutorials and other
material on the web for these tools at:
http://www.research.ibm.com/dx/proceedings/cart/index.htm
http://www.research.ibm.com/dx/bonuspak/applications/cartography/
http://www.research.ibm.com/dx/bonuspak/applications/space/
http://www.research.ibm.com/dx/bonuspak/applications/meteorology/
http://www.research.ibm.com/dx/bonuspak/html/bonuspak216.htm

I use map data from other sources all the time. Usually, I write a little
code to parse the format to create a dx file. In cases where I need to
reuse the code, I'll often make a filter out of it and invoked directly via
Import.

You can see some additional examples of using DX with geographic data at:
http://www.research.ibm.com/people/l/lloydt/
http://www.research.ibm.com/weather/
http://www.research.ibm.com/weather/vis/w_vis.htm
to give you some ideas about the potential of DX

Subject: [opendx-users] Worldmap question

Hi guys,

I'm new to DX and I've been facing some dificulties with the WorldMap tool.
I
want to create a nice satelite image, combining the satelite data, the
topography data (etopo 5) and the worldmap on the same image.

The topography and the satelite data are been displayed correctly, but the
worldmap is plotted in a strange orientation. Does someone have experience
with this particular tool?

Another question is if it is possible to plot customized maps that I have
in
other file formats, like MapInfo, shapefiles and dxf, and if is how do I do
that?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks!
