Yes, it works with Irix 6.5.9. I believe the problem is with the version of Image Magick you have installed. Several people have had the same error after installing the compiled binaries, which was solved by updating ImageMagick.
I used IM 5.3.4 to compile the binaries. I think 5.3.0 to 5.3.3 were not compatible and version before 5.2.2 will not work.
